What the CV builder is for, why a CV belongs to an employee, and the three formats it exports.
CVs are what you send a client to win work. In consulting and contracting the CV is the pitch, which is why this is a builder rather than a file upload.
A CV belongs to an employee
Every CV is attached to an employee. That is what lets you keep several CVs per person, which is the normal case: the same consultant needs a different emphasis for a data engineering role than for a team lead role.
What you get out
Three exports, from the same content:
- PDF, for sending.
- Word (.docx), for agencies who insist on editing it.
- JSON Resume, the open interchange format, for taking your data elsewhere.

What you can put in
Structured sections rather than a blank page: experience, projects, education, skills, languages, volunteering, awards, certificates, publications, interests and references. Add only what you have. See Sections.
Getting started quickly
You almost never start from nothing. Import an existing CV as a PDF, Word file or image and Steerd extracts the content into the editor, or import JSON Resume if you have it.
Themes
The layout is a theme you choose, not something you lay out by hand. The default is available on every plan; the rest are a paid feature. See Templates and themes.
