Steerd Help

Preview and exports

The preview screen, the three export formats, and the print setting that decides whether color reaches the edge.

Preview / Print opens the CV as the document it will be, on its own screen, with everything you can do with it.

The preview screen

It shows the finished page and gives you the theme selector, the exports and Print. Back to editor returns you.

If you got here with unsaved changes it says so:

Previewing unsaved draft

Which is useful: you can look at an edit before committing to it.

Print / Save as PDF opens your browser's print dialog. Saving as PDF from there is how you get the PDF, and it is the same rendering you are looking at.

For a theme with a colored sidebar or header, set Margins to None in the print dialog, or the color stops short of the paper edge and the document looks broken. Steerd reminds you on the screen.

Word (.docx)

Word document (.docx) produces a real Word file, not a PDF renamed. Agencies that insist on editing your CV before passing it on need this one.

Expect the layout to be close rather than identical. Word is a different rendering engine with different rules, and a document that reflows for an editor is the point.

JSON Resume (.json)

JSON Resume (.json) exports the structured data in the open format. This is your way out: it imports into other tools, and back into Steerd.

Which to send

PDF unless somebody asked for something else. It looks the same on every machine, which is the entire argument, and it is what a client expects to open.
