What it is for, the one thing confirming a message always does, and where messages come from.
Review incoming inquiries and turn them into projects.
That sentence is the whole feature, and the important word is projects.
What confirming a message does
Confirming always creates a project. It is not a general "file this email somewhere" tool.
Along the way you attach a contact (required, either an existing one or a new one) and optionally an organization. But the output is a project, every time.
If what you want is a contact without a project, create the contact directly. The inbox is for inquiries, which by definition are potential work.
The three states

| Pending | Waiting for you to review it. |
| Imported | Confirmed, and a project exists. |
| Dismissed | Not an inquiry, or not worth pursuing. |
Where messages come from

- Extension, from the browser extension, for inquiries that arrive on a portal rather than by mail.
Nothing arrives automatically until you connect something. Until then the screen says so:

Nothing is imported behind your back
You choose which messages to pull in, and then you review each one before it becomes anything. Steerd never turns an email into a project on its own.
