Connecting a mailbox
Gmail and IMAP, what access Steerd asks for, and what it does with your mail.
Two ways in: Gmail, and any IMAP mailbox.
Gmail
Authorize through Google. You are sent to Google, you approve, you come back. Steerd never sees your Google password.
IMAP
For everything else: your own mail server, a hosting provider, a mailbox that is not Google. You provide the server, the port and credentials.
Use an app password where your provider offers one. It is revocable on its own, so removing Steerd's access later does not mean changing the password you use everywhere.
What Steerd does with your mail
It reads messages you explicitly ask it to import, so it can suggest a project, a contact and an organization.
It does not send mail, does not delete mail, and does not file or move anything in your mailbox. The connection is read-only in effect: your mailbox looks the same after Steerd has been in it.
More than one
You can connect more than one mailbox, which is the normal case when inquiries arrive at both a personal address and a shared one. The import dialog asks which mailbox to search.
Disconnecting
Remove the connection under Settings, Integrations, and Steerd stops reading that mailbox immediately. Projects and contacts created from it stay: they are yours, and their origin is irrelevant once they exist.
