Steerd Help

Drafting a reply with AI

What you steer, which of your facts go into the prompt, and why the draft never sends itself.

Draft with AI writes a first version of a reply into the composer. It needs an AI key, which you or an admin set up under Settings, AI. Without one the button explains that and offers to take you there.

What you steer

You are not typing a prompt. You give the four things that actually change the answer:

  • What the reply should get across. Free text, and the most important field. "Interested, but the start date is tight. Ask what the team stack looks like."
  • Tone: friendly, neutral or formal.
  • Length: short, medium or long.
  • Answers to include: your rate taken from your employee record, when you are available from, where you are based, and whether you work remote, hybrid or on site.

Quoting the rate reads it from your employee record rather than asking you to retype it. If no rate is on file, Steerd says so instead of inventing one, and points at where to add it.

What is sent to the model

Show what gets sent prints the entire prompt before anything leaves: your instructions, the facts pulled from your records, and the thread being answered. Nothing else goes with it.

The key is yours, so the request goes to your provider under your account and their terms. Steerd stores neither the prompt nor the answer beyond the draft sitting in your composer.

For the field-by-field version of that, and what never goes at all, see AI provider keys.

The draft is a draft

The text lands in the composer and stops there. Nothing is sent until you press Send, and if your reply already has text in it, Steerd asks before replacing your words with the model's.

Read it before it goes. A model writing on your behalf to a prospective client is a good first draft and a bad final one, particularly about dates, money and anything you promised earlier in the thread.
