Emails, phone numbers and addresses
Multiple values per contact, what the type labels are for, and how they reach your phone.
A contact can hold as many emails, phone numbers and addresses as they actually have. People have a work address and a private one, a mobile and a desk line, and a contact record that only stores one of each forces you to choose which truth to keep.
Types
Each value carries a type: work, home, mobile and so on.
The type is not decoration. It travels with the value into your phone's address book over the sync, which is what makes your phone show "work" next to the right number when they call.
Which one is used where
- Email: the address on the contact is what the Inbox matches incoming mail against, so a missing work address is why mail from a known person arrives unmatched.
- Phone: not used by anything in the product. It exists for you and for your phone.
- Address: a person's own address, distinct from the organization's. An invoice uses the organization's, never this one.
Formatting
Type phone numbers the way you would dial them. Steerd does not rewrite them, because the format that works is the one you know and reformatting is how numbers get broken.
For an international number, the +49 form is the one that works from anywhere, and it is what
syncs cleanly to a phone.
