Finding a file
Search, the three filters, and how the empty states tell you which of two problems you have.
Search
Searches filenames. Which is the argument for naming files like something a human would type. See Uploading a file.
Three filters
- Category, the kind of thing.
- Uploaded by, which person put it there. All uploaders by default.
- Month, when it arrived. All months by default.
They combine. "Contracts, uploaded by Anna, in March" is three clicks and usually enough.
The empty states are different on purpose
This is worth knowing, because the two look alike and mean opposite things:
- The team has no files. You see the genuine empty state, with no toolbar. There is nothing to filter.
- Files exist, your filter matches none. You see the toolbar and a different message. The fix is to widen the filter, not to upload something.
Confusing the two is how people conclude their files are gone. If the toolbar is there, the files are there too.
Previewing
Files preview in place where the type allows it, so you can confirm you have the right document without downloading it.
If a preview cannot be produced, the file is still fine and still downloadable. Not every format renders in a browser.
Downloading
Downloads the original, unchanged. Steerd does not re-encode what you uploaded.
