Steerd Help

Creating and editing an organization

The fields, which of them reach an invoice, and what a change does to documents already issued.

Organizations, then New. The form is short, and the short form is the point: an organization is mostly a name, an address and a tax identity.

The fields

  • Name, as it should appear on an invoice.
  • Address, including country. Required before you can issue an invoice to them.
  • VAT ID, where they have one.
  • Contact details and notes.

What reaches an invoice

The name, the address and the VAT ID are printed on invoices and fed to the tax derivation. Everything else is yours.

Editing does not rewrite history

Change an address and future invoices carry the new one. Invoices you have already issued keep the old one, because they were sealed at issue.

That is deliberate and it is also the thing people are surprised by. An issued invoice is a record of what was true when you issued it, not a live view of your address book.

Deleting

You can delete an organization. If it is attached to projects or invoices, think first: a correction of an old invoice still has to be addressed to whoever the original was addressed to, and Steerd handles that from the invoice's own snapshot rather than the live record. So a correction survives the deletion, but nothing else about the relationship does.
