Photos and portraits
Adding a portrait, whether to have one at all, and what happens to it in each export.
A CV can carry a portrait. Whether it should depends entirely on where you are sending it.
The regional split
In Germany and much of continental Europe, a photo on a CV is conventional and its absence is noticed.
In the UK, Ireland and the US, the opposite: photos are discouraged and some recruiters discard CVs that carry one, because it exposes them to discrimination claims.
Steerd does not decide this for you. It gives you a CV that can have a portrait or not, and duplicating is how you keep one of each.
Adding one
Upload it on the CV. It is resized for you.
Use a photograph taken for the purpose. The one from a conference badge is recognizably that, and a client reading twenty CVs notices.
In the exports
The portrait appears in the PDF and in the Word export.
Occasionally the Word export reports that the document was created but the portrait could not be loaded. The .docx is still valid and still yours; re-running the export usually fixes it.
Anonymized versions
Agencies frequently want a CV with no name and no photo before they introduce you to their client. That is its own feature rather than something you do by deleting fields. See Anonymizing a CV.
