Renaming and categorizing
The edit dialog, who is allowed to use it, and which files refuse to be edited.
Edit on a file row opens a small dialog with two fields: Name and Category.
That is the whole of organizing. No folders, no tags, no moving things around.
Who can edit
The uploader, and an admin. Not everyone in the workspace.
The reason is that a shared store where anybody can rename anything becomes a store where nobody trusts the names. The person who put it there knows what it is.
Which files refuse
Generated documents. An invoice PDF, a timesheet, an e-invoice file, a sealed travel report: none of these can be renamed or re-categorized, and their Edit action is not offered.
They are evidence of a document that was issued, and their name and category are part of what makes them findable as that. See Files Steerd creates for you.
Categories are a flat list
Deliberately. A category answers "what kind of thing is this", and the answer is usually one word. Anything more specific belongs in the name, where search can reach it.
Renaming does not break anything
The file keeps its identity. Links to it from a trip or an invoice keep working, and anyone with a tab open on it is unaffected.
