Steerd Help

Overview

What the assistant is, how to open it, and what it knows about the screen you are on.

The assistant is a sidebar you open on any screen and tell what you want done. It reads your data through the same permissions you have, and it never writes anything without asking you first.

Ask for the outcome, not the steps. "Archive every lost project" is the whole instruction.

Opening it

The sparkle button in the top bar opens and closes it. It appears once two things are true:

  • Your plan includes AI assistance.
  • There is an AI key set up, either yours or the team's. See AI.

If either is missing the button is simply not there, because an assistant with no key can only fail. Steerd does not resell AI: the usage is billed to you by your provider at their prices.

It knows which screen you are on

That is most of what makes it useful. On a project it knows which project. On a filtered list it knows what the filter shows, so "all of these" means the rows in front of you rather than every row in the team.

On the projects board filtered to Lost, "archive all of these" means the lost ones.

It knows the route, the record a detail screen is about, and the filters a list is narrowed to. It does not watch your mouse and it does not read the page.

Ask it how something works

It has read the whole of this help site, so "how do I create an invoice?" and "how do I track time?" are questions it answers properly, in steps, with a link to the page it used.

That holds for every part of Steerd, including the parts it cannot operate itself. It cannot write an invoice for you, and it can still tell you how to write one.

Two different sentences: "how do I send an invoice?" gets you the instructions. "Send invoice 42" gets you a polite no and a pointer to the Invoices screen.

What it will not do is guess. If no page covers what you asked, it says so rather than inventing a button that does not exist.

One conversation at a time

The panel holds the conversation you are having. Start a new conversation clears it and begins again with nothing carried over, which is what you want when you switch to an unrelated job.

Conversations are private to you. Nobody else on the team can read them, and neither can an admin. They are deleted automatically after 90 days of inactivity.

Where it stops

  • It writes nothing without your approval. See Proposals and limits.
  • It cannot do anything your own permissions do not allow.
  • It only ever sees your own team's data.
